Considerations and tips for your event

Whether you are planning a wedding, a funeral, a party, or any other event, there are some standard things to consider when hiring a singer and choosing the right music:
  • Civil wedding and civil partnership ceremonies are not allowed to contain religious or sacred music. On the repertoire page, I have put a letter 'R' next to those suggestions that are religious for ease of reference.
  • For all events, you need to think about what kind of musical accompaniment you would like to have.  You can have a pianist or organist, which will provide the best musical experience, but will cost more as they will need to be paid. Equally, if you are planning a wedding or funeral, do you know if there is already an organist at the church who would be willing to play?  Bear in mind that you may have to pay the church organist whether or not you use another pianist or organist. It's best to check with the church.  I am more than happy to sing with a backing track.  If you wish to go down this route, I may already have the track(s) you require, or I can purchase a download for a minimal cost which I will absorb within my fee.  If the performance will be in a church, there is usually no requirement for a PA System due to the natural acoustic; but you will need to check that there is a decent sound system for the track to be played from (and someone to press the right button!).  If this is a problem, I may be able to provide a player. If the performance will be in a venue, it may be necessary for you to hire a PA system with a small mixing desk.  I have my own microphone but a stand and lead will be required.  It is prefereable but not essential to have a sound engineer to ensure the balance and sound is perfect. I have contacts who can help with this if your venue doesn't provide this.
